The film noir genre, the majority of which was crafted in the 1940s and 1950s of the 20th century, transcends beyond being merely a cinematic genre – it’s a complete artistic world that’s etched into the collective consciousness. The dark atmosphere, the complex protagonists, and the suspenseful narratives created a culture that often influenced other realms, including the world of fashion, naturally.
In these films, aside from the constructed sets and art, light, shadows, and small details like cigarette smoke play a crucial role in crafting the atmosphere.
Similarly, in the world of fashion, the main protagonist is the fabric. It’s the small details, the precision, and the cuts that render the dress perfect.
When contemplating our new collection, we felt that this was the opportunity to infuse fashion with the mythology found in film noir.
We desired that the women who wear our dresses would feel the tension and drama that characterize this type of cinema.
In our photoshoot set, we chose to incorporate the film-noir atmosphere minimally in terms of constructed art – a single chair, a minimalist table, or a stool.
We crafted the atmosphere primarily through lighting and the positioning of the models.
The dresses are meticulously designed, each one a work of art full of details in itself, and they are the ones that narrate the story.
Every pose was carefully selected to present a unique and dramatic moment
the mysterious girl with a deep background, the courageous detective unafraid of challenges, or the elegant lady from the upper echelons of society whom everyone thinks they know, but no one truly knows what goes on behind the scenes.
In each photoshoot, we asked the models to commit to the moment – to live the character, to embody the story.
In doing so, we succeeded in bringing the nostalgia and beauty of the noir era directly into today’s fashion world.
